Sunbird Bioenergy sourcing elephant grass from farmers to power boiler

November 22, 2017 |

In Sierra Leone, Sunbird Bioenergy will buy $10 million worth of dry elephant grass from local farmers to power the boiler at the former Addax ethanol facility it purchased late last year. Only 25,000 metric tons of sugarcane bagasse were produced this year to power the boiler due to wildfire that destroyed much of the available cane so elephant grass was needed to supplement in order to supply the contracted 10MW to the national grid.
