In India, with an eye on 20% ethanol blending and 5% biodiesel consumption for 2030, the government’s upcoming biofuel policy is expected to allow grain-based ethanol production during surplus years. Damaged grains unfit for consumption will also be allowed as biofuel feedstock. Currently the country only consumes 2% ethanol despite a 10% blending policy and 0.5% biodiesel, which likely to fall even further as a result of the new goods and services tax that the biodiesel industry says makes its product unviable in the current market.
